Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor

Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
4 stars
Setting: West Virginia
Published: 1991

This was a first time read for me. I'm not sure why I hadn't read it previous in my life but I'm glad that I did now.

This story is about Marty and his family. They live in West Virginia and are on the poorer side of the economic scale. They have enough food for them to eat and survive but nothing to extras, especially pets. Marty wants a dog and when one wanders into his life he is never the same again. This special one is named Shiloh and is a beagle. He is skittish but only because of his owner. From that moment on, neither one of their lives are the same.
I would recommend this book for anyone that is an animal lover. I liked this book as it taught a lesson too, treat animals with care and also work for what you want. I thought this was written well especially to engage the younger mind set.
